YMCA Summer Day Camp offers children positive developmental experiences and encourages them to forge bonds with each other and with staff, building confidence through skill-building activities suited to their age. Children experience a sense of achievement through opportunities in the outdoors and are welcomed to a physically and emotionally safe and stimulating environment.

Summer Day campers are able to explore creativity, teamwork and leadership in a wide range of physically active programs that influence lifelong healthy living. They have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor environment where they develop an appreciation of nature. Summer Day Camp builds an interest in community with experiences in local and global cultures where campers gain an appreciation for others different from themselves. Today, Summer Day Camp is more vital than ever, with an increased emphasis on child safety, summer learning traditions, personal values and social skills.

As with any Y program, the purpose of Summer Day Camp is to help youth grow spiritually, mentally and physically. Summer Day Camps give young people an experience that can last a lifetime and inspire them to continue an involvement with the Y for years to come.

Need 1 week here? 2 Weeks There?

At the Y, we offer 3-week session blocks because we find that consistency helps kids form friendships, advance their swim skills, and experience everything our Summer Day Camps have to offer. That said, we know how busy families can be during the summer and if you need more flexibility, we’re here to help. If you’d like to purchase summer camp weeks “a la carte,” just come in and let us know which weeks work for your family.

Please be aware that to take advantage of flexible scheduling, you must register in person. Space may be limited. Flexible scheduling is offered based on camp capacity: children who are part of our 3-week sessions have priority on all off-campus trips.

Registration begins on Saturday, January 10th. Registration is taken on a first come-first serve basis. There is limited enrollment per camping session so we urge that registration be made early and for the exact number of camping periods desired.

Good to Know

CAMP CLOTHING

Please dress your child for comfort and safety. Play clothes are the best. Sneakers or other closed toe shoes are a must. Flip-flops, Crocs, or sandals are not allowed. Each child must have a bathing suit and towel (with their name clearly displayed) everyday. Please label every item and check the lost and found frequently. Camp T-shirts are not required every day but are required on trip days.

HEALTH FORMS & MEDICATIONS

A Camper Health History Form must be filled out at the time of registration. NYS Department of Health requires that we have a copy of your child’s updated immunizations on file. In the event you cannot drop off or mail the immunizations, feel free to have your doctor fax it to us at 289-4451 attention CAMP. No child will be permitted to attend camp and no refunds will be given if we are not in possession of this information by June 1st. No exceptions will be made. Physical exams are not required. Children requiring medication will need a doctor’s note specifying proper dosage, time and procedure. Children are required to self-administer medication in the presence of the Camp EMT. The Camp EMT is available during regular camp hours.

LUNCH & SNACKS

Campers should bring a non-perishable bag lunch, snack and a drink. Please label all items with the child’s first and last name. Water bottles are also welcome. Lunches will be refrigerated making us unable to accommodate lunch boxes and coolers. Additional beverages and snacks may be purchased during lunch. (Holtsville location only)

  • Sibling discount: (Valid on Full Day 5 Days a Week ONLY) Register your first child and receive a $50 per child per session discount for each additional sibling.
  • Only registering part time campers? No problem! Register your first child and receive a $25 per child per session discount for each additional sibling.

PAYMENT & FORM DEADLINES

The dates listed below are designed to “check in” each camper for the upcoming Day Camp session. All information must be finalized, session balances are due in full and each child will receive a camp T-shirt, session calendar, and parent booklets will be distributed.
Thursday, June 5th- all should be completed for children attending Session 1
Thursday, June 26th- all should be completed for children attending Sessions 2 & 3

Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance is available for qualified individuals. Campership applications must be completed in full and received no later than April 15, 2015, for consideration by the financial assistance committee. Applications are evaluated on a first come first serve basis and are available at the Member Services Desk starting January 10th, 2015. Please note, that additional information may be requested. Types of Camp

KIDDIE CAMP

(ages 3-5 years)

YMCA Kiddie Camp is a wonderful introduction to Summer Day Camp, with unique experiences to enhance both physical and emotional growth. The program is designed for ages 3-5 and the children enjoy air-conditioned classrooms, outdoor playgrounds and other areas for all the following activities: Swim Lessons, Arts & Crafts, Special Events, Kid Fitness, Dance, and Water Slides. Please note that all children must be completely toilet trained, pull ups are not permissible.

YOUTH CAMP

(Completed grades K-4)

YMCA Youth Summer Camp is the place for a summer of fun, healthy and safe outdoor activities. Youngsters develop new friendships, experience independence and acquire new skills by participating in traditional camp activities, exciting special events, life skills programming and outside entertainment. Campers are organized by grade in co-ed groups. Activities for Youth Camp include: Swim Lessons, Recreational Swimming, Arts & Crafts, Ga-Ga, Science, Sports, Dance, Zumba, Physical Fitness, Inflatable Water Slides, High & Low Ropes Courses, and a Rock Climbing Wall.

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING

(Completed Grades 8-9)

The C-I-T program combines the fun of camp with leadership and on-the-job training skills. It is an exceptional opportunity for young adults to develop their leadership skills. The C-I-T’S will assist counselors with camp groups.

PRE-TEEN ADVENTURE

(Completed 5th Grade)

Our Pre-Teen Adventures Camp has been created to evolve with todays older children. While Pre-Teen Adventures mirrors a similiar programming schedule as our Youth Camps. Pre-Teen campers will also be taking at least one trip per session as well as going to our Patchogue facility daily for some adventures! Exciting activities such as our Ga-Ga Pit, Sports, Dance, Rockwall, and our swimming program make Pre-Teen Adventures Camp the place to be this summer!

TOO COOL FOR CAMP

(Grades 6-8)

Our Patchogue/Roe YMCA looks forward to another year of action-packed activities! We place special emphasis on activities designed to meet the needs of the emerging teenager.Too Cool is the place to be this summer with new trips and activities being planned. Too Cool will be going on daily trips. Too Cool will be taking trips to the Patchogue YMCA and previous trips have included Fire island. Movies, Bowling, Adventureland and Captree Boat Fishing! They will spend their time making friends and having new experiences and enjoying YMCA activities. Activities include: teen fitness, sports, crafts, swimming, rope challenge course as well as many other activities. *Please note all trips are subject to change depending on availability and weather.*

BEFORE & AFTER CARE

Extended Hours are available for all full day campers for an additional fee. Before Care 7:00am – 9:00am, After Care 4:00pm – 6:00pm The fee for this service is $100/session for am or pm care or $170/session for both Our daily rate is $15 for am or pm.
