The YMCA of Long Island's Early Childhood/Preschool Programs are committed to providing a safe, supportive learning environment for young children to learn, grow and develop social skills. Our teachers create a warm and loving atmosphere while offering a developmentally-appropriate, engaging curriculum, where children can play, discover and learn. The development of independence, trust and initiative is fostered through a balanced program of choice and structure, quiet and active play, and group and individual time. Our programs encourage children to explore, experiment and learn through literacy, science, dramatic play, block building, art, music and manipulative materials all while acquiring school readiness skills of reading and math. Age ranges for Early Childhood/Preschool Programs are 18 months* - 4 years old. *Please check your local branch as ages vary per branch.

2026-2027 School Age Child Care
Kindergarten through 5th Grade | AM & PM Care
The YMCA of Long Island’s Before and After School Program provides academic support and hands-on enrichment experiences in a safe and structured environment for children grades Kindergarten through Middle School. The YMCA of Long Island partners with school districts in Nassau and Suffolk counties to support student learning. We emphasize the Y’s four core values in character development — caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility – in every activity and interaction. Our staff design engaging enrichment activities to help support your child’s learning in all areas. In addition to supplementing what they learned in school, children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of structured activities, get assistance with their homework from trained YMCA staff, can socialize with their peers and form new relationships. We also see an importance of giving them some time to participate in staff supervised free play, which is vital for their development, growth and self-confidence. Age ranges for Before & After School Child Care are Kindergarten through fifth grade.
