Glen Cove, NY - November 30, 2023 - The YMCA of Long Island proudly announces the success of its Island Food Drive, a community-wide effort to support families and individuals in need during the holiday season. From November 1st to November 30th, members, staff, and volunteers came together to collect donations of canned and non-perishable food items, resulting in an impressive total of over 600 lbs.
The food drive aimed to alleviate hunger and provide essential support to those facing food insecurity in the surrounding areas. The generosity and compassion displayed by the Long Island community have made a significant impact on the lives of many. The collected donations were distributed to several local shelters, including Long Island Cares in Huntington, Island Harvest, and Portch Pantry in Glen Cove. These organizations play a vital role in providing food assistance to individuals and families facing economic challenges.
"We are overwhelmed by the incredible response to our Island Wide Food Drive," said Anne Brigis, President and CEO of the YMCA of Long Island. "The outpouring of support from our members, staff, and volunteers demonstrates the power of community unity and compassion. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of those who need it most, especially around the Holiday Season."
The YMCA of Long Island extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the food drive. Through their generosity, countless individuals and families will have access to nutritious meals and essential support during the holiday season
