YMCA of Long Island Announces New Community Center Coming to Elmont

ELMONT, NY — The YMCA of Long Island is proud to announce plans for a new YMCA Community Center in Elmont. This transformational investment will bring expanded opportunities, critical resources, and lasting benefits to the Elmont community by creating a safe, welcoming space dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The property was purchased for $4.8 million, with $2.5 million coming from a state grant and the remainder from UBS Arena, the NY Islanders, and Empire State Development.

The Elmont Y Community Center, at 570 Elmont Road, will serve as a cornerstone for the Elmont community—providing local children, families, adults, and seniors with greater access to high-quality programs and services close to home. The center is expected to enhance community wellness, support working families, create opportunities for youth enrichment, and provide a gathering place where residents of all ages can connect and thrive.

“New Yorkers made a commitment to deliver a community space in Elmont as part of the Belmont Park redevelopment, and today we are taking an important step to fulfill that promise for its residents,” Governor Hochul said. “By working closely with community members and local leaders, we identified a site that is more accessible and better suited to serve families, seniors and young people for generations to come.”

Programs will include youth sports, afterschool support, family engagement opportunities, senior programming, and community events—all designed to address the evolving needs of Elmont residents. By expanding access to affordable programs, the center will help strengthen families, encourage healthier lifestyles, provide safe spaces for young people, and foster stronger community connections.

The community center is part of the broader Belmont Park redevelopment, which includes UBS Arena, the Belmont Park Village retail development, a new parking structure, improvements to local parks and the new Elmont Long Island Rail Road station. Beyond recreation, the new community center will serve as a resource hub that supports personal growth, social connection, and equitable access to opportunities that can positively impact generations to come.

“This milestone represents a significant moment in time and investment in the future of the Elmont community. At the Y, we believe every community deserves a place where individuals and families can reach their full potential, and we are committed to extending our longstanding mission and trusted reputation to communities that both need and deserve access to high-quality programs and services. Bringing the Y’s mission to Elmont is both an honor and a responsibility we take seriously, Anne Brigis, President & CEO, YMCA of Long Island said.

“This new community center will serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity — providing a welcoming and inclusive space that supports youth development, promotes healthy living, and advances social responsibility for generations to come. We are deeply appreciative of the incredible and dynamic support of all of our partners — most especially Governor Hochul, UBS Arena, New York Islanders, and Empire State Development in helping bring this vision forward to fruition.”

Additional details regarding construction timelines, future programming, and community celebrations will be announced as the project progresses.
