Mickey Norton Dedication
August 13, 2025
Last week, the Huntington YMCA proudly hosted a dedication ceremony to celebrate the lasting impact of Mickey Norton — a beloved coach, mentor, and champion for athletes of all ages.
Norton’s connection to the YMCA spanned decades, beginning in his youth and continuing through his work building sports leagues, developing youth programs, and advocating for women in sports long before it was common. His commitment ensured that every child had a chance to play, regardless of financial or personal challenges, and he created a community that valued sportsmanship, inclusion, and teamwork.
The ceremony brought together former players, coaches, and friends to share memories, view a slideshow of historic team photos, and honor Norton’s achievements.
"In honor of Mickey’s enduring contributions, we’ve proudly hung his Hawaiian shirt and photos from those early years. They serve not only as a tribute, but as a reminder—to all who walk through these doors—of where we came from, and of the people who helped us become who we are today," said Nicole Dinolfo, Huntington YMCA Executive Director.
Though Norton passed away in 2005, his legacy continues to live on in the countless athletes, campers, coaches, and parents whose lives he touched — and in the thriving sports programs at the Huntington YMCA today.
