In Memoriam: Methel Gale – A Legacy of Strength and Inspiration

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Methel Gale, a devoted member of the Y community who leaves behind an indelible mark of courage, kindness, and dedication. For the past four years, Methel bravely battled pancreatic cancer, showing unwavering strength and resilience throughout her journey. Now, she rests in heaven, reunited with her loving husband, Walter.

Methel's spirit shone brightly in the Y LIVESTRONG program, where she became a true beacon of hope and inspiration. A consistent participant, Methel not only embraced her own recovery but also dedicated herself to supporting others in the program. With her infectious positivity and fighting spirit, she mentored countless individuals, always sharing the powerful message: “We only have today, so let’s make the most of it.”

Her dedication to living each day to the fullest was evident in everything she did. Methel never missed a session at the Y, attending alongside Walter, her partner in life. She was more than just a participant; she was a friend, a mentor, and a role model to everyone around her.

Methel was recently honored as a Y Inspired Member at this year's Great South Bay YMCA 5K Run/Walk in Memory of Judi, a testament to the incredible impact she had on the Y community. Her story of strength and perseverance continues to inspire us all. View her story here.

Beyond her work with the Y, Methel was a tireless volunteer, offering her time and energy to numerous organizations in her community. An avid musician and devout churchgoer, she brought joy and light to all who knew her.

Methel’s legacy of unwavering strength, compassion, and service will continue to inspire us all. While we mourn her loss, we take comfort knowing she is now at peace in heaven with Walter.
