Huntington YMCA Launches Outdoor Classroom Program with National Grid

P R E S S  R E L E A SE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Huntington, NY (August 25, 2023)-The Huntington YMCA formally unveiled the National Grid Outdoor Education Center to Summer Day Campers this summer. This initiative, which began in late 2022, stemmed from an opportunity for the Huntington YMCA to enhance programming in partnership with National Grid. The new National Grid Outdoor Education Center, positioned on the Huntington YMCA campus, includes multiple learning stations for children to explore their natural surroundings and discover the world around them.

“We are grateful for our partnership with National Grid to bring this education program to our campers, preschoolers and overall community,” said Anne Brigis, President & CEO, YMCA of Long Island. “Research shows that children and young adults who are engaged in outdoor education are more likely to engage in positive behaviors, eat better, sleep better, and step up as guardians in safeguarding our planet for generations to come,” Brigis said.

“We are thrilled to see children enjoying the National Grid Outdoor Education Center and watching preschoolers and campers exploring in nature’s classroom,” said Kathy Wisnewski, Director of Customer and Community Engagement, National Grid. “Encouraging youngsters to learn about science, gardening and art will help them become stewards of the environment. Investing in our children’s environmental education is another step towards a brighter future.”
