Huntington YMCA Bluefish Swim Team Raise $42K for Cancer Research
On Monday, June 2, the Huntington YMCA Bluefish Swim Team came together for a powerful purpose—hosting a Swim Across America charity swim and raising more than $42,000 to support the fight against cancer. This remarkable total currently makes it the top fundraising swim in the country this year!
More than 120 swimmers, ages 6 and up, participated in the event. The youngest swimmers tackled an incredible one-mile swim, while older athletes took on 2 to 3 miles—all with one shared goal: to make waves that matter. Every practice group—from Blue to Gold—joined the effort, showing what teamwork and community spirit can achieve.
The event was led by Head Coach Eve Brown and Age Group Coach Kelly Lennon, with full support from the entire coaching staff. Coaches Sean Hardick and Phillip Volaski even joined the older swimmers in completing the longer swim distances. Coaches Meg McConnell, Thomas Ostuni, and Linda Sinski also played key roles in planning and fundraising.
A special thank you goes to Nicole Dinolfo, Katie Vitale, and Aquatic Director Ed Ryan for their dedication and for helping bring this national Swim Across America program to the Huntington YMCA. During the event, swimmers also had the opportunity to hear from a speaker involved in cancer research, offering an inspiring reminder of the importance of their efforts.
Following their swim, the athletes were rewarded with a celebration that included pizza from Mario’s of East Northport and ice cream from Hali’s Ice Cream Truck—both of which generously donated to support the event.
This incredible accomplishment is yet another example of the leadership and heart shown by the Huntington YMCA Bluefish. As 2024 and 2025 NY YMCA State Champions, these athletes continue to raise the bar—not only in competition, but in character and commitment to their community.
Congratulations to the Bluefish—your impact reached far beyond the pool.
