The sun is setting earlier, the nights are getting cooler, and our summer at camp is coming to an end. The last days of camp can be emotional; after all, we have played, learned, laughed and grown together for the last nine weeks. The bonds of friendship forged at camp are uniquely strong. Although campers are excited to start the new school year, it’s sad to say goodbye, even though we know we’ll see each other again. As we do every year, we want to thank YOU — for the gift of camp you give your children, for the trust you place in us, and for being a part of the Y family. We treasure the opportunity to make the summer great for our families.

Kiddie Camp During the last week of session three, campers learned all about Community Helpers. On Monday, campers learned about Police officers and Fire Fighters. Tuesday was Farmer Day and campers played Farm Bingo and brought all the animals back to the barn. On Wednesday, campers got a visit from a Dental Hygienist and learned about how to properly brush their teeth. On Thursday, campers decorated and delivered cards to all of the staff at the YMCA for Mailman and UPS Worker Day. The week wrapped up with Doctor, Nurse, and Paramedic Day.

Youth Camp  The summer is coming to a close and this week the campers experienced an action-packed agenda. The return of the Holly Rock Game Show had campers competing in trivia and physical challenges to see what team will reign supreme; the boys or the girls. This time, the Girls Win! Thanks to a partnership with the United Way and Nature’s Bounty Foundation, campers have been learning why it is important to eat a rainbow of vegetable colors and got to taste some vegetables too. Campers learned that eating colorful fruits and vegetables every day helps to keep our bodies healthy. By eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, campers learned that they get more vitamins and minerals. The vitamins and minerals help us see better, keep our skin soft, and help to keep us from getting sick. The rainbow they ate included purple cabbage, red tomatoes, green cumbers, and yellow peppers. We closed the show with our Lion King Jr. final performance where the parents and peers came back for an evening show to see the stars preform one more time.

Pre-Teen Adventure This week, the group went to Dave and Busters, famous for their games and great food. The kids had tons of fun playing the exclusive games and left with full bellies and great prizes. The camp closed out the week and the summer with the final performance of the Lion King Jr. Musical. We all said our goodbyes and look to next summer’s adventures in Too Cool for Camp!

Too Cool for Camp This week, Too Cool for Camp went to the fields of High Velocity Paintball in Coram. They enjoyed an action-packed day of tactical adventure and team work as they battled in out in elimination and capture the flag games on the many maps that are offered.

There is still room available in our Say Goodbye to Summer Week running from 8/27-8/31, for those who want to extend the fun one more week!
