YMCA at Glen Cove Summer Day Camp
Water Slides, Ropes Challenge Course, and Soccer Matches!
Olympics Week started with an opening ceremony to build camaraderie, discuss Olympic values, and enjoy some friendly competitions between our counselors. The annual torch passing ceremony was a highlight, with two campers in sports winning the morning counselor competitions. Campers competed individually in Olympic-themed events like basketball, soccer, archery, running races, shotput, and javelin. In art, they designed individual and group banners reflecting the Olympic spirit. STEM activities also kept the campers engaged and learning.
Our groups shifted from individual games to small team and whole group competitions. Fun events included scooter races, handball, and swimming races. At the ropes course, specialists tracked how fast campers completed various elements. In art, teams worked on their banners. Counselors, specialists, and Unit Leaders joined the fun with a frozen t-shirt challenge and a pie-eating competition. Olympics Week concluded with a presentation of the Olympic banners and anthems, a champions parade, and a sneak peek at the upcoming Color Wars competition.
