“THE Y TRANSFORMED MY BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT”

In the summer of ’94, when I was 56 years old, I had a near-fatal auto accident. I suffered significant nerve damage and lots of broken bones. My most serious injury was a torn aorta. I had always been an avid swimmer, so my first instinct was to begin swimming as a way to recover. I joined the Y. I’m so glad I did.

When I first came, the Y was a lifeline. As I worked on repairing my body, I made friends and found support from the people at the Y. Twenty years later, I’ve made many friends and connections, and I’m still swimming at the Y three times a week. In fact, several years ago, I competed in the Long Island Senior Games at Suffolk Community College and received two bronze medals!
