“THE Y TRANSFORMED MY SON FROM BEING A CANCER SURVIVOR TO BEING A KID”
Two days before his fifth birthday, Elijah was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He faced the possibility of losing his leg. He also face missing an important part of his childhood – the chance to be active. However, through the Y’s “Strength Through Strokes and Strides Program,” an initiative that incorporates running and swimming for children who have survived cancer, Elijah was able to run, swim and play in a safe and nurturing environment.
Elijah’s mom Karon says, “It’s wonderful to see Elijah getting stronger and having fun… just being a kid.”
