YMCA Long Island is a leading non-profit (501c3) community-based service organization serving thousands of children, teens individuals and families every day, through programs and services that nurture youth development, foster healthy living, and inspire social responsibility.

We are currently seeking an Executive Director of YMCA Family Services to be responsible for the direction and supervision of all service delivery programs operated by Family Services. As our Executive Director, you will maintain a positive working relationship with all funding sources for Family Services programs and act as an active advocate for the continued provision of social services operated by Family Services.

Principal Activities:

  • Interprets agency’s objectives and policies to staff and community. 
  • Supervises staff in meeting these objectives and carrying out these policies.
  • Prepares the annual Family Services budget.
  • Supervises Program Directors who are directly responsible for administering funded service contracts for government, corporate or foundation funders.
  • Seeks potential programs to strengthen Family Services portfolio of service contracts.
  • Evaluates the performance of Project Directors annually.
  • Employment, modification in job requirements and termination of staff.
  • Prepares reports for Corporate Office 
  • Prepares all documents required by funding sources.
  • Negotiates contracts with funding sources; sets fees.
  • Participates in Executive Cabinet, Branch Cabinet and Corporate Board meetings.
  • Represents the YMCA in professional committees, organizations, etc.
  • Provides consultation to other branches and the Corporate Office on issues involving employees’ area of expertise.

We require:

  • Minimum Master’s degree (preferably LCSW) and at least 5 years of successful, experience at similar levels of responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of government, corporation and foundation contract goals and objectives, be able to communicate those goals and objectives to staff and successfully meet the terms of the various contracts for which Family Services is responsible.
  • An understanding of the general purposes and structure of the YMCA is important to successful accomplishment in the position and the incumbent must be able to recruit, work with and develop a productive contract management staff. In addition, you must be able to critically evaluate the work performance of staff and make changes as needed 
  • An understanding of government contracting practices and how they mesh with YMCA fiscal management practices is necessary for efficient management of Family Services and the varied government contracts it is responsible for operating.
  • Expertise in human relations since the position entails not only the supervision of numerous professional and non-professional employees but also involves representing the YMCA to the general community, government and other professional agencies.
