POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Operations at the Huntington YMCA stewards the Y's cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. The Director of Operations will oversee assigned areas of the operation specifically Membership, Healthy Living, Aquatics, Sports and Enrichment and Teen programming, and coordinates with the service departments (Facilities and Business), and participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaboration with community stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•    Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals. Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.
•    Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensures operating budgets meet or exceed targets. Recommends adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
•    Designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong project management. Organizes people and activities for efficiencies and effectiveness. Measures progress against strategic goals and ensures continuous improvement. Continually evaluates progress, impact and outcomes; makes process improvements and adjustments as needed.
•    Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs diverse staff and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Guides others on how to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies that improve organizational performance. Creates a learning environment that supports and promotes the acquisition, application, and sharing of new knowledge. Leads team in handling challenging situations from programmatic to human relations related. 
•    Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y's impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, and community leaders).  Develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
•    Provides staff support for assigned committees. Provides staff leadership for annual support campaign.
•    When requested by Executive Director, acts as a staff liaison to Board and Committees. Assist with board recruitment. Attend all board meetings. Implement and foster new and updated policies and procedures, as required by the Executive Director and YMCA of Long Island, consistent with the Association's strategic plan.
•    Create and maintain a branch atmosphere that values diversity and inclusion.
•    Manage the branch DOD schedule.
•    Keeps record essential for control, evaluation and reporting to the Board and the Executive Director. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Executive Director and Board of Managers.
•    Assists Executive Director and committees with Special Events (5K, Carnival, and Golf outing), and branch events (Healthy Kids Day, etc.)
•    Works in conjunction with the Association staff team and the subject matter experts.


QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business or a related field.
•    Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
•    Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, and program development.
•    YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
•    Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
•    Experience overseeing and evaluating high quality programs for a wide range of age groups. 
•    Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
•    CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
