POSITION SUMMARY:


As Personal Trainer, you will create program designs for individual and small group clients in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.  You will provide clients with expertise in exercise science to enhance wellness and goal achievements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


•    Arrive on time, prepared to begin and end the session/class on time. 
•    Design appropriate workout regime to accomplish the client’s goals in accordance with the YMCA mission.
•    Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintain working knowledge of health and wellness to provide effective information and support to members.
•    Build effective, authentic relationships with members; help members connect with each other and the YMCA.
•    Keep accurate class attendance records.
•    Follow YMCA policies and procedures; know emergency procedures, respond to emergency situations and accurately file an incident report.
•    Follow Personal Training Verification Protocol.
•    Schedule clients, providing flexible days/times options. 
•    Know and enforce all Fitness Center rules to ensure the safety of all members/participants; immediately stop any behavior, which in your professional opinion is deemed unsafe. 
•    Always behave in a manner consistent with YMCA policies and procedures.
•    Dress neatly and professionally.
•    Know facility schedules and be familiar all YMCA programs.
•    Educate participants on proper form, anatomy, contraindications, and modifications of a move or moves; adjust session/class to accommodate a variety of fitness levels.
•    Ensure clients maintain hygiene habits/practices in accordance with CDC guidelines.
•    Clean and disinfect equipment, in accordance with YMCA protocols. 
•    Maintain certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:


•    Nationally recognized certification in personal training or nationally recognized personal training certification (e.g., ACE, ACSM, ISCA).
•    First Aid, CPR, AED and Oxygen Administration certification; to maintain active status on an annual basis.
•    YMCA Praesidium Academy on line trainings within thirty days of hire.
•    YMCA of Long Island New Employee Orientation within thirty days of hire.
•    Must have knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology and strength and conditioning program leadership and implementation.

•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will or may be required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, lift and/or move up to 45 pounds regularly and 50-100 pounds occasionally, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
•    The work is performed both indoors and out, and may require travel to various locations. 
•    Plan, lead and participate in a variety of physical activities.

SALARY RANGE:


Newly hired employees will be paid between $20.00 p/h and $55.00 p/h depending on experience and level of qualifications.
