Our Goals

We believe that to bring about meaningful change in individuals and communities, we must be focused and accountable. At the Y, we measure the success of our cause by how well we engage communities in our three areas of focus.  The Y is for everyone. Our programs, services and initiatives: enable kids to realize their potential, prepare teens for college, offer ways for families to have fun together, empower people to be healthier in spirit, mind and body, prepare people for employment, welcome and embrace newcomers and help foster a nationwide service ethic. And that's just the beginning.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for life. Because of the Y,more young people in neighborhoods around the nation are taking a greater interest in learning and making smarter life choices. At the Y, children and teens learn values and positive behaviors, and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow. The Glen Cove Y cares for your children and teens by providing safe places at our school age child care, and connecting older students with mentors who can guide their careers as they move on to the workplace and higher education. We also create lifetime memories at our summer day camps and build character and confidence in children through our youth                                                           classes and swim lessons.

FOR HEALTHY LIVING

The Glen Cove YMCA is committed to positively affecting the minds and bodies of our members. From birth to seniors, all ages are encouraged to take advantage of all we have to offer. Our programs for adults include a variety of fitness classes, gym orientations and sports activities like basketball and soccer. Therapeutic classes both on land and in the water are offered to help with a variety of physical conditions. Group Exercise classes range from low-impact tai chi and yoga to intense step and sculpt and aerobics. No matter what kind of group exercise class you are looking for we have it. Complimentary childcare is also offered for parents while they exercise.  Our options for kids are endless--- summer camp; swim classes; pre-teen workouts, yoga; school age child care; ballet; martial arts; and much more.

FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Y makes strengthening our communities our cause. By offering affordable child care to low and middle-income
families, by developing drug prevention and anti-gang programs for at-risk youth, by helping military
families cope with having a family member overseas, and through so many other programs that promote a healthy spirit, mind and body. The Twenty-one million people of all ages and walks of life who are committed to one of our more than 2,600 Y's each year know this: we're here for them.
